This Thursday, January 18th, we welcome Penrose Brewing to Rockford with an in-store beer tasting.

The following beers will be tasted out. Get to know them a little better…



This beer packs a ton of Hop Head Farms Chinook hop goodness into a golden blonde base. Tropical fruits, assertive hop bite and an ample dankness fuel our fresh Taproom IPA.

ABV: 7.1%  |  IBU: 85  //  Malt — 2 Row, Carapils  //  Hops — Chinook, Columbus, Cascade


Another step in our low-ABV kettle-soured series, our Session Sour utilizes Amarillo hops to bring a grapefruit pop to welcome in clean tartness and shandy-like brightness.

ABV: 4.0%  |  IBU: 15  //  Malt — 2 Row, Carapils  //  Hops — Columbus, Amarillo  //  Yeast — Saison II, Lactobacillus


Full of chocolate, roast and toasted marshmallow flavors layered on top of a sticky, aromatic, Simcoe hop note that finishes smooth and silky.

Mer Soliel

Silver Unoaked Chardonnay 2014

Wine Spectator 90pts – A seductive style that captures effusively ripe peach and nectarine flavors. Features a juicy texture that’s broad and layered. Despite using no oak, this leaves the impression of spicy, jazzy wood on the lingering finish. Drink now.

Winemaker’s Notes – A pale yellow hue, the wine is well balanced with great structure. Bright minerality, pink grapefruit and key lime characters shine through on the nose, followed by lemon zest and stone-fruit. The mid-palate displays intriguing notes of lemon meringue, quince and citrus, complemented by a crisp acidity that carries through from start to finish.

Food Pairings – The higher acidity in this wine makes it a perfect accompaniment to a wide array of food, particularly salads, grilled seafood, tomato-based dishes and fresh oysters.



Clos Pepe Vineyards Pinot Noir 2011

Wine Spectator 91pts – Intense and vibrant, with focused notes of rich, zesty raspberry puree, blackberry, black licorice and pomegranate, easing into the plush texture. Drink now through 2020. 600 cases made.

Wine Advocate 92pts – A big step up and a beautiful 2011 from the Santa Rita Hills, the 2011 Pinot Noir Clos Pepe Vineyard has a supple, seamless profile that’s hard to resist. Exhibiting plenty of sweet cherries, blackberry, spice, toast and hints of licorice, it flows onto the palate with a medium-bodied, rich and textured mouthfeel that keeps you coming back to the glass. Slightly hedonistic, with an upfront feel, it will delight over the coming 4-5 years. Drink now through 2018.

Winemaker’s Notes – My philosophy on making wine is that the fruit is EVERYTHING. What happens in the vineyard determines the quality of the wine – I can’t make it better – I can only screw it up! That’s why I’m extremely picky when choosing vineyards to buy grapes from. Not only am I looking for the right soil, micro-climate, and clones, I’m also looking for a grower with the same passion and dedication to producing great wine that I have. In other words, a total Pinot Freak!


ch Guiliana’s Crema di Limoncello

CH Guiliana’s Crema di Limoncello is the Illinois take on the traditional Italian lemon liqueur blended with cream. They say it is made from a family recipe in Naples and uses fresh lemons… they suggest serving chilled as a shot for dessert.

The producer notes that some separation for their product is normal and expected. It is named for Giuliana Vitagliano, a native-born Italian from Naples now living in Illinois who insists upon peeling the lemons by hand in order to create the taste.

CH Distillery was founded by Tremaine Atkinson and Mark Lucas in 2012. Atkinson has a background in home brewing and a shared passion for vodka with his lifelong friend Lucas. Their distillery includes a cocktail bar with both signature and classic cocktails, homemade infusions, and dinner menu. They call themselves a “grain to bottle” distillery.

Easter Wines

Easter is just around the corner and you might be wondering, what wine pairs well with the traditional Easter ham. The usual sweet, salty, and rich flavor palate of ham is going to pair nicely with wines that are bit more of the sweeter side, higher acidity, and a strong fruit presence. We took the time to pick out wines we think would be a nice asset to your dinner table without breaking the bank.

2013 Goldeneye Anderson Valley Pinot NoirGoldeneye Anderson Valley Pinot Noir 2013

A classic cool growing season, 2013 delivered another fantastic vintage for Anderson Valley. This wine explodes on the palate with flavors of bright cherry, blackberry, wildflowers and pomegranate, as well as more savory layers of earth and leather. Silky tannins underscore this wine’s exceptional structure and texture, while leading to a long, lush finish with a touch of redwood that is a hallmark of all of our estate vineyards. 

Elouan Oregon Pinot Noir 2015

This Elouan Pinot Noir is richer and more full bodied than what is typical of Oregon Pinot Noir, which generally is very lean. Bright ruby red in color. Ripe cranberry, sweet cinnamon and fresh cherry create an inviting bouquet, with a subtle earthiness. The palate shows texture and weight with firm acidity that carries the flavor through. The flavor profile shows red plum, bright cherry, minerality, dusty earth, and a hint of sweet tobacco, creating rustic layers of flavor with soft refined tannins.


And if you fancy a fruit-glaze to your ham, we recommend a wine that can hold up to the intense fruit flavor, such as a Zinfandel.

2015 Sonoma Zinfandel

This wine presents a bold nose that teems with aromas of blueberry, nutmeg and baked strawberry, intertwined with hints of brambly spice and lush black fruit typical of Alexander Valley. The palate leads smoothly with flavors of briery, black cherry, cocoa and coffee, while the finish is balanced and elegantly structured


Coto de Hayas Centenaria Garnacha 2011

This fleshy red delivers a rich core of blackberry and blueberry compote, accented by toasty vanilla, sweet licorice and cinnamon spice. Well-integrated tannins give this backbone. A bold, modern style


If red wine isn’t your style, we selected a couple white wines that have just enough sweetness to compliment the ham without overpowering it.

This shows a fine winemaking touch with this ethereal Riesling. It has seductive honeysuckle and lemon blossom aromas to lure you into the glass, where delicate green apple, pear and pineapple flavors are vitalized by lively acidity


Dr. Konstantin Frank Finger Lakes Gewurztraminer 2014

A classic gewurztraminer with a fresh, appealing lift and brightness of texture, this leads with scents of crushed rose petals and pineapple. While there’s plenty of ripe apple fruit, the lasting impression is of lanolin and minerals. A phenolic coolness of tone keeps the wine poised and exotic at once

Regaleali Le Rosé Nerello Mascalese 2016 

Our rosé, made with Nerello Mascalese grapes planted at Regaleali in the Santa Rosa vineyard in 1986, combines the elegance of fruity red wine with the flavor of white wine. Deep salmon-pink in color, Le Rose offers delicate aromas of cherry, raspberry, blackberry, and-appropriate to its name-rose petals.  Rich on the palate with refreshing acidity and a long, flavorful finish.

4 Hands Brewing Company, located in the LaSalle Park neighborhood, will provide the craft beer enthusiast a handcrafted portfolio inspired by the American craft movement that pushes the limits of creativity. Our barrel-aging program will produce a truly unique line on beers. The use of wine and spirit barrels containing an array of fruit, herbs, and spices in conjunction with wild yeast strains will enhance theflavors to produce a one of a kind beer.
