2021 Vintage- The Primitivo Rudiae of Vigneti Reale dedicates its name and label to the ancient Messapian city (the Messapians were an Indo-European tribe that in classical antiquity occupied the territory corresponding to today's Salento), the birthplace of the Latin poet Quintus Ennius, where one of the entrance gates to the subsequent city of Lecce was then erected. The Primitivo grapes are harvested with careful selection, by hand, in August; they ferment and macerate for about 10-12 days at a temperature that never exceeds 30°C, then the wine matures half in steel, half in large wooden barrels.

THE TASTING
Vigneti Reale's Primitivo del Salento Rudiae is a concentrated and bright ruby red. In the olfactory complement, notes of plum, cherry, blackcurrant and licorice alternate, with touches of pepper, myrtle and hay, in a frame of sweet spices. The mouth is warm, with rigorous tannins and balsamic length. Bottle to be uncorked an hour before drinking, it is excellent in combination with grilled meats, even with important marinades, for example Texas brisket, beef breast cooked slowly on the barbecue.
